Hydrogen powered gin

Supporting The Surrey Copper Distillery to produce low-emissions craft gin

A sustainable partnership

The Surrey Copper Distillery and H‑Power worked together to create a special‑edition gin powered by hydrogen. Crafted by The Surrey Copper Distillery and produced using clean electricity from H-Power's on‑site hydrogen fuel cell, H₂ Gin is a celebration of British innovation.

Decarbonising gin production

Copperfield gin is distilled using power from our hydrogen fuel cell, which generates electricity by combining hydrogen with oxygen, producing only energy and water, with no direct emissions. We use green hydrogen sourced from renewable power.

The Surrey Copper Distillery’s batch process relies on steam, and our H‑Power fuel cell provides the electricity to create that steam, replacing the mains power normally used by the boiler.

H-Power

Our H-Power Tower 'S' series produces the clean electricity to run the distillation process, with no direct emissions. This will result in significantly lower carbon dioxide emissions across the distilling process.

Our collaboration with The Surrey Copper Distillery highlights how hydrogen could support the decarbonisation of the gin distilleries and more broadly the food and beverage industry to meet its net zero targets.

Our collaboration with H-Power (formerly AFC Energy) demonstrates a more sustainable manufacturing process. Through the use of low-emission hydrogen power, we have been able to develop a gin which not only tastes excellent, but also has a lower carbon footprint.
